Theme Park Wayfinding & Visitor Experience Strategy

Yas Island Theme Parks

Taking a deep dive to enhance visitor navigation.

Expertise: Theme Park Wayfinding Strategy, Navigation & Visitor Experience Audit

The significant year long program sought to assess the effectiveness of wayfinding and navigation systems across Miral's premium entertainment portfolio across all of their theme parks, identifying deficiencies and providing strategic recommendations to enhance visitor experience, operational efficiency, and safety compliance.

Drawing on 30 years of industry expertise we took on the highly valued role of trusted partner for Miral, and delivered a multi-stage engagement encompassing detailed site audits, technical analysis, and strategic recommendations.

Our methodology included visitor journey mapping from pre-arrival through exit, photographic documentation, visitor surveys and formal and informal interviews, staff consultations, and behavioural observation studies. We assessed signage across multiple criteria: size, position, quantity, messaging effectiveness, zoning logic, accessibility compliance, and overall system coherence.

Our technical review evaluated wayfinding signage effectiveness, accessibility compliance against ADIAS standards, gap analysis identifying areas requiring additional guidance, and system architecture assessment. We examined the complete navigation funnel for each venue—from roadside approach signage through parking, arrival, in-venue wayfinding, mapping, and exit strategies.

Our audit revealed systematic wayfinding challenges across the portfolio, with common issues including inadequate roadside directional signage, absent journey planning tools at venue arrivals, fragmented zoning strategies, ineffective mapping, and critically absent exit signage systems.

We delivered comprehensive recommendations structured around four pillars: Arrival Excellence (roadside, parking, and threshold design), Navigation Excellence (system architecture, spatial coordination, and physical implementation), Mapping Excellence (redesigned wayfinding maps, information architecture, and digital integration), and Exiting Excellence (exit strategy development, safety integration, and departure experience).

The final deliverable included a phased implementation roadmap spanning immediate safety interventions through long-term digital mapping integration, complemented by ongoing maintenance and performance monitoring frameworks.

This project exemplifies our commitment to transforming visitor experiences through evidence-based, strategy-led wayfinding solutions that balance thematic integrity with navigational clarity—ensuring Miral's world-class destinations deliver exceptional guest experiences from arrival to departure in the years to come.
