The Oasis Placemaking & Visitor Experience Strategy

The Oasis in Al Khail Gate was an interesting and unique challenge where Creative Dialog was tasked with creating an all-new kiosk park in an empty area of this very urban and bustling residential district in Al Quoz.

Consisting of nine re-purposed food kiosks and provision for three food trucks, The Oasis was created as an urban sanctuary where the inner areas of the park are surrounded by lush landscape and trees to provide a completely unique and well shaded food park within Al Quoz.

Pedestrian safety was integral to this project and that’s why we created highly integrated and landscaped mounded retaining walls surrounding the space to protect the park and visitors from the busy roads of Al Khail Gate.

We also wanted to create a sense of escape from the built environment with an atmosphere of food and fun for people to gather and enjoy an afternoon or a weekend evening with friends and family sampling the latest street food trends on offer. To do this we developed communal amphitheatre seating and a series of grassed relaxing areas that can be used in a variety of ways. The site also provides 45 off street parking spaces with easy access, while a variety of interlock treatments for the ground plane are complimented by a central meandering walking trail with bespoke lighting to deliver a highly cost effective and flexible destination for use day or night.
